Two Barred Owls

The owl shots were taken in a tree next to Bob’s driveway on NE 103rd St. And the coyote was taken several years ago under the same tree. I wonder, has anyone had any coyote sightings lately?

Please take this survey aiming to measure conservation values

Hello, Victory Heights Neighbors,
Stephanie Zimsen here. I am taking a class at the Woodland Park Zoo on community conservation. I am posting here to ask your help with a class project, a survey aiming to measure conservation values. I will analyze your answers for a two-page term paper exploring conservation values.
The survey is intended for people in the Victory Heights neighborhood in Seattle. Further, it is intended for people with yard or garden space, whether they rent or own, or have a big yard or a single container of plants outside.
Your response will be completely anonymous, and I will not store any IP addresses. You are welcome to fill out more than one survey from each household, but please complete just one per person.
This is a very short-term project, so the survey will be open only to the end of Sunday, September 25, 2011.
I will make the results available to the neighborhood here at the Place of Towering Firs blog, around October 4.
The online survey is here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ZHCQ7HY
It has 10 questions, and will most likely take you 5 to 10 minutes.
If you have questions or concerns, or would like a paper version to fill out, please contact me. My email address is merzimsen@yahoo.com .
Thank you for your help with this survey!
Steff

Seattle Parks and Recreation Seeking Names for Parks Along Thornton Creek

The public is invited to submit potential names for four separate areas of park land in the Thornton Creek watershed. Parks intends to keep the “Thornton Creek” identifier in each of the new formal names.
Here in the Victory Heights neighborhood we have Park 2 with formal access points at NE 102nd St. and 17th Ave. NE and at NE 104th and 17th Sts. NE, as well as two areas along NE 100th St.
Parks encourages your naming suggestions take into account the features of the park, including the wildlife habitat, flora and fauna in the area.
Many in our community are suggesting Towering Firs Natural Area or Place of Towering Firs for Park 2 and are encouraging everyone to write a letter submitting this name.
The deadline for park names in writing is Thursday, March 3, 2011
