Did You Hear The Carolers?

For the fourth year in a row, carolers wandered the streets of Victory Heights last Sunday, looking for people at home (harder than it seems) to sing their Christmas songs to. Over two dozens people (including many families) met up at the Co-op preschool building in Victory Heights Park to warm up, have some hot apple cider and cookies, and then headed east on NE 107th Street in search of houses.  It was a fairly warm (for late December) dry evening, perfect for being out and about. There were so many people that most couldn’t get close to the porches or doors, and the folks inside couldn’t even see the huge crowd that was singing to them.
The carolers got as far as 23rd Avenue NE, nearly up to Northgate Way, before turning back to the park.  But one last stop was required, to the so-called “Mayor of Victory Heights,” a gentlemen who lives on 12th Avenue NE north of 113th (technically Pinehurst? But who’s counting?). Although nobody appeared to be home, he did appear at his door and got the last song of the evening.
Thanks to everyone who participated, and the folks who passed out homemade stollen to the singers at their house.  Yum yum!
